Corporate responsibility has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, as companies promote their environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts to the public and shareholders alike. Questions pertaining to ESG are included in the recent GEIS survey, further demonstrating its importance. How do you ensure that your senior team members are working towards achieving your company’s ESG goals? One strategy that is being used more frequently is tying ESG goals to equity compensation plans. We’ll exam how ESG has evolved over the years, and how ESG goals can be incorporated when issuing performance awards to employees. Additionally, we will review how the design of your incentive plan can be used to coincide with specific goals (for example, meeting certain climate targets might be better suited for long-term incentive plans while diversity training can be tied to shorter-term awards). We will also review best practices to follow when designing your plan.
